President Biden honoured hundreds of American police officers who have died in the line of duty in a speech at the 40th Annual National Peace Officers’ Memorial Service in front of the U.S. Capitol on Saturday, where many officers were wounded defending the building during the insurrection on January 6.
First lady Jill Biden, Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas, FBI Director Christopher Wray and others were in attendance.
Biden said police officers are expected “to be everything, we expect everything of you, and it’s beyond the capacity of anyone to meet the total expectations. Being a cop today is one hell of a lot harder than it’s ever been.”
